So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Last day today, so bittersweet. Thanks everyone, it’s been a slice.

CLICK ME TO DONATE!

Hi friends!

I’m typing very slowly at the moment, my arms are very sore. I’m currently in the midst of a very rigorous boxing training schedule for a charity boxing event coming up.

The Astoria Boxing Club was recently and unfortunately forced to shut it’s doors. The Astoria was a very old boxing club, a Vancouver institution, located in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. If you aren’t familiar with the Downtown Eastside, it is considered one of North America’s poorest and most drug-addled neighbourhoods…it’s also where I live! I’ve watched so many young people waste away in my time here. A big part of what made the Astoria such a special place is their willingness to train anybody, regardless of financial circumstance if they are willing to work. They have offered countless underprivileged kids a place to go, mentorship, discipline, and a wonderful supportive community…things so essential to uplift kids in a bad situation. Dave the head trainer will even call their schools and parents to ensure they are keeping on the up and up during down time. I feel really passionately about what a good environment this is for kids to have available instead of the other more apparent options on the streets of the DTES.

It would be such a shame to see this place fade away, so a group of us are training hard to have a fight night so we can raise money to build these guys a new gym.

Help keep my training going, please throw a donation down. Any little bit helps, small contributions add up. These are all tax deductible- does your boss have too much money that he needs help with? Please pass this around.

Here is some info on the charity that’s been set up in order to do this: http://www.apronsforgloves.com/

Or if you would like to donate with a cash or cheque, please call or email me at the shop and I’ll let you know the best way to do that. (604) 417-3996/ mr.leesgeneralstore@gmail.com

Lots of love and thanks,
~Molly

PS If you live in Vancouver, fight night will be July 25. Come watch me lay it to someone. Otherwise, the fights will be streamed live on the internet.

The new issue of Kinfolk has arrived. Whose hungry? I sure am.

If your hair/beard is needing some TLC we brought this in for you. Olo’s Argan Oil Hair Tonic has a unique cedarwood + rose scent. One or two drops is all you ever ever need. Unlike many other “argan” oils, Olo’s tonic has no silicon or other short cuts - this product is just simply Argan oil (from the kernels of the argan tree in Morocco) and our good friend Vitamin E.
It’s seriously amazing.

New Hours

Hi Everybody,

For the next little while the shop will be closed on Sundays and Mondays.

As you know, the Belmont downstairs now takes appointments, but we being the appointment-takers are going to be away on Mondays for the next little bit. Please call ahead to book with Rich on Mondays, and if it’s already Monday and you want a cut, pop in to chat with the man directly.

Mr. Lee’s will be back to seven days a week after a little rest, and when the winds turn warmer. Don’t fret friends.

See you soon.

~M

It only took about 2 years but Mr.Lee’s General Store has finally hung a sign outside the shop. But hey! it’s better late than never.
